Marianne Sunderland

My name is Marianne Sunderland and I am so glad that you dropped by my little space here.  It is my goal that you would be encouraged, inspired and refreshed by your time spent here.  I live in Southern California and am a Christian wife and homeschooling mother of 8 beautiful children.  We’ve homeschooled all of them from the start and have learned a thing or two along the way.

What this blog is about:

Parenting is not for the faint-hearted.  We all want for our kids to be responsible, hard working and well-educated.  As modern parents we need to Understand Attitudes of Entitlement  and How to Raise Responsible Kids.  With eight kids, you may want to know how we Homeschool the Large Family or how we have learned to Parent Outside the Box.

In my 19 years of homeschooling, I have learned a lot about finding and staying true to a homeschool family vision, recognizing and avoiding homeschool burnoutand overcoming the learning struggles associated with Dyslexia (which 6 of my 7 reading-aged kids have.)  From preschool to high school, we have it all going on over here!  Click here to read my list of 10 Things I Wish I Knew Before I Started Homeschooling.

Understanding God

I used to strive to be a good parent, wife and Christian. I worried and planned and had a lot of expectations about how my life would be.  Then I learned that it is not until I lose my life that I gain it and that in the losing of self and growing in Christ – rest, peace and abundance are found.  This is the beautiful paradox of the Christian walk.  There are times that God’s ways don’t make sense.  Often times a simple shift in perspective (plus a steadfast amount of time spent reading the Bible) can help you overcome fears and doubts in your own life.

Comments, Discussions and Feedback:
My hope is that this space would be a place where a community of like-minded people could gather without fear of shame or rejection.  So hop in, leave a comment (found at the end of each post) and let me know what you think, how I can help or how you have been encouraged.  If you have been encouraged here, you can sign up for updates to be delivered to your email inbox, or follow me on Twitter and Facebook.
